Hi there! My name is Katy Potts and the 2014 – 2015 term marks my second year at Ojeda Middle School. As an art teacher, I believe that a strong cultural foundation is integral to successfully evaluating the work of others. Fortunately for me, I grew up in South Austin (an area overflowing with rich cultural experiences) and now that I work for Del Valle, I can finally give back to the community that helped raise me.  I was always considered an ‘artsy’ kid. I took dance lessons, drew comics, made films, animated cartoons, sculpted miniatures, sewed clothing, and played music. Involving myself in these activities was a wonderful experience but working with so many different mediums was exhausting. While I knew that focusing on one art form was the logical choice, I did not want to limit myself. It was then that I considered becoming an educator. I was inspired to share my knowledge of art and explore a wide array of mediums alongside my students. In 2012, I graduated from St. Edward’s University with a bachelor’s degree in art education. Teaching 6th and 7th grade students perfectly matches my energy and passion for art. I love helping them, watching them grow as artists, and getting to know them as individuals.
