DVISD Technology Department welcomes latest cohort of summer interns
Nearly two dozen DVISD students recently started summer internships with the DVISD Technology Department. The internships are paid, and students have the opportunity to learn about the growing technology industry.
The internship program has expanded its offerings as it welcomes its fourth cohort of students. The program now includes hands-on experience with software, hardware, cybersecurity, and programming. Having added the cybersecurity and programming paths to the internship, students will learn the basics of each pathway.
“I’m ready to learn, and I’m just ready to get into new things. I’ve always been interested in learning more about technology and IT, so I’m ready to try new things,” said rising senior Albert Islas.
Over the summer, our interns will collaborate with department and campus technology staff to ensure the District’s technology is ready for the new school year. Alongside these experiences, the department has curated field trips for the interns to engage with District partners, such as Cisco, offering unique insights into the industry.
“The field trips they have planned for us sound really cool. It seems a lot different this year,” said junior Caitriona Means. She added that even though this is her second year in the program, she’s prepared to learn new things she can apply to her studies in government and foreign affairs.
The program cultivates student interest in technology, and several have gone on to join the District’s Technology Department full-time after graduation. New employees are already familiar with District workflows, electronics, and other department employees at that level.
Regardless of their future career paths, students get real experience collaborating with coworkers, managing their time cards, time off, and additional tasks that easily translate to any job.
