Smith ES and Newton Collins ES earn Gold Ribbon Award from Children At Risk
Christian Aleman-Rodriguez

The organization Children At Risk named Del Valle ISD’s Smith and Newton Collins Elementary Schools as two of the best-performing schools in Central Texas.

The two received Gold Ribbons, meaning they are two of the seven highest-performing traditional neighborhood schools in the entire Central Texas region. This is the second year in a row that Smith ES has been recognized as a Gold Ribbon school and the first that Newton Collins ES has received the distinction.

“Congratulations to Central Texas's highest-ranked schools! These campuses are setting the standard for student success across all grade levels,” Children At Risk said in a post announcing the top schools.

The organization analyzed various metrics to formulate the awards. The methodology included student achievement, student growth, and performance relative to schools with similar demographics.

Children At Risk is a nonprofit advocacy and research organization aimed at understanding and addressing the root causes of child poverty and inequality. Children at Risk awards schools in Texas to bring awareness to parents, educators, and community members to understand how their schools perform and encourage greater accountability and transparency in the Texas education system.
