DVHS Legal Cardinals Moot Court Team qualifies for nationals
Six DVHS Legal Cardinals Moot Court teams competed at the 77th Annual Texas Youth and Government Competition, and one qualified for nationals!
The advancing team, comprised of seniors Breean Mansell and Yosvani Lopez, placed fourth at the state competition and secured a ticket to the national competition happening this summer. The event took place at the US Federal Courthouse in Austin, where teams were evaluated by legal professionals.
The team earned one of only five advancing spots from around the state and will compete in Minnesota this coming July against teams from across the country.
Both seniors have been involved with moot court for three years and are certified mediators through DVHS’ CTE programs. Both are anticipating earning their paralegal certifications by the end of February. Advisor and teacher Michael Cunningham says legal competitions such as this one are the “single best way to practice to become an attorney.”
DVISD had six teams compete at the state competition after winning at the district level:
- Breean Mansel and Yosvani Trujillo Lopez, 4th Place, advancing to nationals
- Alondra Guiterrez and Cait Valerio Means
- Kimberly Peralta and Stephanie Obregon
- Kenelle Hodge and Coleman Patmon
- Amerie Morales and Fiorella Salazar
- Kamille Cartwright and Salem Aleman
The 2024 competition marks the 10th time Del Valle students have qualified for nationals since 2013.
