Del Valle ISD announces Dr. Katrina Bailey as Chief Academic Officer

The Del Valle ISD Board of Trustees approved Dr. Katrina Bailey as the district’s new Chief Academic Officer at a Special Meeting on February 4. As a seasoned educator and transformational leader, Dr. Bailey brings more than 20 years of experience in public education to Del Valle ISD, where she will serve as the district’s instructional leader.

“Dr. Bailey is a proven leader who is deeply committed to academic excellence. Her expertise includes improving student outcomes, coaching campus leaders, and fostering a culture of innovation,” Gutierrez said. “She will be invaluable as we work toward strengthening our instructional programs ensuring success for all students.”

In her career, Dr. Bailey has held multiple leadership roles, including most recently at Austin ISD as the Executive Director of School Leadership. At Austin ISD, her leadership supported the strategic rollout of academic initiatives that resulted in an academic rating improvement at 71% of the district’s campuses. She also previously served as a campus Principal and Academic Dean at Round Rock ISD.

She holds a Doctorate in Education from UT Austin, a Master’s in Educational Administration from Texas State University, and her Bachelor’s from Huston-Tillotson University.

Dr. Bailey’s leadership will be instrumental as the district begins shaping a new Strategic Plan this year. Her leadership will guide shaping and executing the district’s academic plans through strengthening instructional practices and providing support to teachers and campus leaders.

“I am honored to join Del Valle ISD and work alongside dedicated educators and leaders who are committed to providing students with the highest quality education,” said Dr. Bailey “I will build on the district’s foundation to ensure every student has access to rigorous, engaging, and meaningful learning opportunities.”

The district anticipates Dr. Bailey will begin in her position by the start of March.
