Board Briefs - April 22, 2025
Public Comment We would like to take a moment to offer a brief clarification regarding comments about librarians made during the recent public comment portion of the School Board meeting. Del Valle ISD is not eliminating librarian positions. However, due to ongoing challenges in recruiting certified school librarians, paraprofessionals may be assigned to support library services on campuses where a certified librarian is not available. Information Items Communities in Schools At the April 22 School Board Meeting, Trustees received a detailed presentation from the CEO of Communities In Schools (CIS). Del Valle ISD is currently exploring a partnership with CIS, a nonprofit organization committed to helping students overcome academic, social-emotional, and mental health challenges. Given the district’s current financial realities, we are carefully examining every aspect of the budget through a lens of long-term sustainability. These decisions are not being made lightly—they reflect our commitment to protect classroom instruction and provide a salary increase for all staff. A partnership with CIS would allow Del Valle ISD to continue delivering critical mental health services to students while expanding the support available on campuses. We know how important it is for families to have clear, accurate information. Please click here to view a short Q&A that outlines some questions about CIS.
