Dear Del Valle ISD families,

We are excited to welcome your child back to school for the 2021-2022 school year! While we again find ourselves facing an unusual start to a school year, I know that it will be a wonderful year with exceptional student achievement.

As leader of Del Valle ISD, I want to assure you that our commitment to a safe learning environment with high expectations for student learning continues. We all understand that our students will come to school with various experiences, some returning after more than a year of online learning. We are ready to support all students with an individualized approach to ensure they are successful.

Everyone in DVISD has a student-centric mindset to put our kiddos first. Our maintenance and facilities teams bring their best by providing clean and updated facilities. Transportation shows their best many times by being the first person to greet our students each day and ensuring they safely make it to school. Child nutrition puts care into every meal to make sure our kids have the best nutrition each day. Our coaches put together the best game plans to help our athletes have a winning season. Our secretaries and front office staff bring their best smile and customer service so parents and students feel welcome at school. The safety and security department puts their best foot forward to keep students safe and cultivate positive relationships. Our social workers, counselors, and student support teams provide the best social-emotional support and encouragement to our students so that they can be at their best in the classroom each day. Our administrators provide leadership so students and families know they are sending students to the best schools. Our curriculum department delivers a world-class curriculum to our students and professional development to our teachers.  Our technology department ensures that our online learners have everything they need to be successful.   And last but never least, our teachers develop the best lesson plans to ensure student success and high levels of achievement through an individualized approach. Together, we ALL show up to provide a world-class educational experience to each and every student.

Since we are starting the year in Stage 5 of the Austin Public Health Covid guidelines, I want to remind you about our commitments to safe learning.

  1. We have a thorough and detailed safety plan in place. This plan includes enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols. Click here to view this plan.

  2. We will continue to notify parents when there is a confirmed positive Covid case at their child’s campus and continue to contact trace and encourage quarantine of close contacts.

  3. Our Board of Trustees is requiring all students, staff, and visitors to wear masks while at our buildings.

  4. We will continue to update the DVISD Covid Dashboard providing you transparency on the number of positive cases in our schools.

  5. We are continuing to offer free Covid tests for symptomatic DVISD students and staff, please click here for information.

  6. We are committed to continuing vaccination opportunities for our eligible students, employees, and families as they are available. Parents of middle and high school students should check your email or call your child’s school for on campus vaccination opportunities this week.

I would also like to ask our parents to help us have a successful school year by partnering with us on the items below.

  1. Review the safety plan linked above.

  2. Work with your child to wear a mask every day

  3. Consider scheduling a vaccination for your child if they are 12 years or older as we know this is the most effective form of protection against Covid-19.

  4. Check your child for a fever and symptoms of illness each day before school, please do not send your child to school if they are ill.

  5. Report any positive Covid-19 test result to covid19@dvisd.net

  6. Ask your child how their day was, support their schoolwork, and let your campus know of any concerns.

We continue to be thankful for our families for navigating this pandemic together with the district. I will host regular virtual meetings this school year to provide parent updates and we promise that we will continue transparent communication with any updates as we keep health and safety as our priority.

Thank you for being part of Del Valle ISD, let’s have a great year!

Annette Tielle, Ed.D.
