Del Valle ISD raises substitute teacher pay

Substitute teachers in Del Valle ISD will earn a minimum of $130 a day effective January 21, 2022, and continuing for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. The pay increase keeps DVISD substitute pay competitive as districts across the nation experience sub shortages.

The district is hosting a Substitute Job Fair on Thursday, January 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Del Valle Opportunity Center (5301 Ross Road) for individuals and community members interested in a sub position. In addition to teaching substitutes, the district has food service, maintenance and transportation sub positions available.

Additional pay incentives are in place for substitute teachers with a bachelor’s degree, teacher certification, and for long-term positions.

“Del Valle ISD is committed to maintaining an exceptional learning experience for all students and this competitive increase to sub pay allows us to recruit qualified substitutes to keep education going,” said Superintendent Dr. Annette Tielle. “DV is a community that comes together to support each other and we want to reward those community members who step up and fill in as teachers for our kids.”

The substitute application process has also been simplified to allow for faster hiring. All substitutes are required to pass a background check and fingerprinting process prior to beginning work in DVISD schools. Information at dvisd.net/careers
