Education Field Placement (Student Teaching/Intern/Observation)

HR must approve all requests for college/university education field placements.  This includes all Student Teaching, Observations, and Practicum placements.

Student Teaching/Observing/Interning in DVISD
Students are eligible to student teach, complete classroom observations, or intern in DVISD if currently enrolled in a teacher degree program at a college or university or currently seeking certification through an alternative certification program.

Students seeking to be placed on a district campus for spring 2023 student teaching will need to complete the Student Teacher/Observation/Intern Application found on the DVISD HR application website.  The spring 2023 application is now open and can be found here. HR will contact the program coordinator and student by e-mail, after the application has been received and a DPS Background Check has been processed.

Students/program coordinators should not contact the campuses directly for placement.

HR will work with the program coordinators from colleges and universities to place student teachers in DVISD schools and obtain final approval from the campus principal for all placements. Students will be placed based on campus/teacher eligibility.  Not all students who apply will be placed in the district.  All Student Teachers/Counselor Interns who have been approved by HR and confirmed by the campus will be required to attend a Student Teacher/Counselor Intern Orientation.  Each Student Teacher/Counselor Intern will receive an official badge identification at this orientation. Student Teachers/Counselor Interns may not report to the campus until a badge is obtained from HR. (not the school).

Student observers seeking observation hours only must complete the Student Teacher/Intern/Observer application and may only report to the campus, once cleared by HR.

Interning in DVISD
HR may allow for non-paid internships depending on department eligibility and need.  Anyone seeking non-paid internships should contact the department they are interested in interning with to check for placement eligibility.  The district offers a few paid internships in select departments, depending on eligibility and funding.  Only after checking placement eligibility should prospective interns complete the Student Teacher/Observer/Intern Application.
