Elementary Music
Music is offered on every elementary campus in Del Valle ISD. The class is offered to Kindergarten through 5th grade students once per week and is taught by a music specialist. The class curriculum is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). As part of the curriculum, students perform both in class and in campus performances. Campuses also provide a variety or small group, after school, music enrichment opportunities. Please see the LEAD After school Program page for more information.
The fine arts incorporate the study of music to offer unique experiences and empower students to explore realities, relationships, and ideas. This discipline engages and motivates all students through active learning, critical thinking, and innovative problem solving. The fine arts develop cognitive functioning and increase student academic achievement, higher-order thinking, communication, and collaboration skills, making the fine arts applicable to college readiness, career opportunities, workplace environments, social skills, and everyday life. Students develop aesthetic and cultural awareness through exploration, leading to creative expression. Creativity, encouraged through the study of the fine arts, is essential to nurture and develop the whole child.
