The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Approves the Del Valle Independent School District Police Department

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) approved the Del Valle Independent School District (DVISD) Police Department after completing site visit inspections at the secondary campuses on May 27th. Del Valle ISD received notification today from TCOLE of their police department number.
At the February 18 Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the creation of the department. The newly formed DVISD Police Department will consist of eight State of Texas licensed police officers, including Police Chief David Lopez. Final recommendations for hiring of the police officers will be brought to this week’s Board Meeting.
The District’s new police department will align district policies and procedures with police department actions while continuing to provide the same level of safety at all campuses. In addition to ensuring a high level of safety and security to our schools and students, the DVISD Police Department also provides cost savings to the District.
“I am proud of the hard work our team put in to meet our timeline this spring even with the challenges associated with the Covid pandemic,” said Superintendent Dr. Annette Tielle, “I am looking forward to closely working with our new chief and officers to support the needs of our district.”

The department will be operational by the start of the 2020-2021 School Year, after training is completed this summer.
