Prop A Funding Priorities

About the Funding Priorities
Proposition A provides $13.9 million of new funding in the current fiscal year and is expected to provide at least as much each year thereafter to support the district’s maintenance and operations (M&O) budget to:
- Increase teacher & staff pay
- Maintain current programming
- Cover the expense of opening North Del Valle High School in 2028
Prop A includes funds designated for staff salary adjustments and impacts every student and campus in Del Valle ISD.

Increase Teacher & Staff Pay
Prop A provides funds to maintain top teacher pay in Del Valle ISD. Prop would provide a pay increase for approximately 2,000 employees.
Del Valle ISD currently has the highest starting salary for teachers in the area. Prop A provides funding for the district to continue to stay competitive among neighboring districts.
DID YOU KNOW?
- Central Texas is experiencing a teacher shortage, and Del Valle ISD is no exception. The district has already developed creative approaches to fill vacancies and raise salaries, and Prop A would provide funding to address the remaining vacancies.
- Prop A provides funds to the district to attract more teachers to support student achievement and discipline in schools and maintain current class sizes.
- Health insurance premiums are climbing, which means teachers would effectively take home less without the raise Prop A would provide.
- Without additional revenue:
- Positions may remain vacant longer.
- The district will consider fewer assistant directors for Fine Arts and coaches for athletics.
- Some CTE programs may also be cut due to staffing issues

Fund Staff at North Del Valle High School 2028
Prop A will fund positions at North Del Valle High School, allowing it to open as intended.
Without additional funding, opening a second high school is estimated to cost $4.7 million in recurring annual operational expenses, which would require severe reductions elsewhere.
When North Del Valle High School opens, Del Valle High School will no longer be over capacity. Del Valle High School was built for 3,250 and currently has 3,595 students at the campus. The common areas are over capacity, and there are currently 18 portables at DVHS.

Maintain Student Programs
Prop A provides funds to maintain student programs.
After-School Care Programs
Prop A funding would be used for compensation increases in an effort attract and maintain staff at the after-school care programs.
About 82 students are currently on the waitlist for the district after-school care program. DVISD offers a free after-school program available to all students across the district. Each day, students receive a dedicated hour of academic support, including homework help and tutoring, to reinforce learning and build confidence. The program provides enrichment opportunities, dinner, and transportation.

Child Development Centers
Prop A would allow the district to maintain the Child Development Centers service for employees.
Centers are currently open to the children of employees at a discounted rate and to teen parents.
If Prop A doesn’t pass, DVISD will review every aspect of the district budget. As part of this comprehensive review, the district will examine the three Child Development Centers. While they provide valuable, low-cost childcare to our students and staff, DVISD will explore more sustainable solutions due to their ongoing operational losses.
