School districts operate with two budgets.

The Maintenance and Operations (M&O) pays for day-to-day instructional and operating costs like salaries, benefits, supplies, maintenance, food and fuel.

The Interest & Sinking (I&S) pays for voter approved bonds issued for capital improvements like new construction, renovations, large repairs, and other projects in bond elections.

Proposition A provides approximately $13.9 million of new funding in the current fiscal year and is expected to provide at least as much each year thereafter, to support the district’s M&O instructional budget to increase teacher & staff pay, open North Del Valle High School in 2028 and maintain student programs.

Based on the average home value of $233,000 in Del Valle ISD, the property tax impact of Prop A would be $0.76 per month for the average homeowner, or roughly $9 per year.

Property taxes for citizens 65 years or older—or those who are disabled—are not affected by a rate increase, if the appropriate homestead exemptions are filed with the Travis County Appraisal District.
 

Ballot language will include the statement "THIS IS A TAX INCREASE."

A new legislative measure requires all Tax Ratification Elections for any school district to include the phrase “THIS IS A TAX INCREASE” on all ballot language. Homeowners ages 65 and older who have filed for and received the Over 65 Exemption will not see an increase over their frozen dollar amount if there have been no major additions or improvements to their home. Check your most recent Notice of Assessed Value Change to see if you will be impacted.

Ratifying the ad valorem tax rate of $1.0328 per $100 valuation in Del Valle Independent School District for the current year, a rate that will result in an increase of 19.5% percent in maintenance and operations tax revenue for the District for the current year as compared to the preceding year, which is an additional $20,038,349.
