Appropriate. That was the championship word spelled by Hornsby-Dunlap Elementary student, Xavier Valverde to win the district-wide spelling bee.
Xavier ended in first after competing with thirty other elementary school spellers. The bee went nine rounds into the middle school level spelling list. Coming in third place was Luke Cavazos from Popham Elementary. Harmony Sedillo from Baty Elementary placed second.
“Our elementary students worked so hard to compete in both the campus and district spelling bees,” Morganne Davies said, LEAD and Fine Arts Coordinator.
The top five spellers from each elementary campus advanced to compete in the district bee which was recently live streamed for the public via facebook live.
