The collaboration between Del Valle ISD and the Junior League of Austin’s Coats for Kids program continues this December with distribution events across the district to maintain safety during the pandemic. This year, families pre-registered to receive coats with individual and curbside pickup options in place of a large community event at Del Valle Elementary School. Students, whether attending classes remotely or in-person, were all offered an opportunity to acquire a coat.
The Del Valle ISD Coats for Kids distribution is a satellite event of the Junior League’s program in the greater Austin area. It is the 13th year for the Del Valle satellite event. Sponsors also include Jack Brown Cleaners, iHeart Radio, and KVUE
Throughout the fall, volunteers from the Junior League worked with Del Valle ISD to develop a safe alternative distribution in accordance with all local, state, and federal pandemic guidelines. The DVISD satellite distribution will provide about 2500 coats to children in the community. In addition to coat distribution, the St. David’s Foundation Dental Program is providing toothbrushes and toothpaste with each coat, and the Junior League’s Food In Tummies program plans to provide weekend snack bags at some pickup locations.
“We are grateful for the Junior League’s continued support of Del Valle students and we appreciate their adaptation this year to ensure Coats for Kids once again provide warm winter coats to students,” said Denise Velasquez, District Parent Community Liaison.
