Five Del Valle High School graduates are heading off to college this month with a scholarship from Del Valle Education Partners. Stephanie Cardenas (UT Austin), Kaitlyn Mendez (UT Austin), Alondra Silva-Martinez (Texas Tech), Giselle Vences Barrueta (St. Edwards), and Justice Warren (UT Austin) were selected as the 2020 recipients of the $2500 scholarships.

A committee of Education Partners evaluated applicants based on an essay, recommendation from a teacher or counselor, GPA, and extracurricular activities. The committee then conducted interviews with finalists to determine this year’s recipients.

“It was an incredible experience to witness the students’ adaptation to change. Students had to interview via Zoom to receive consideration for the Education Partner scholarship due to COVID,” said committee member Alex Navarro, “Their willingness to pivot and interview in a new digital platform demonstrated a lot of resilience and solutions-oriented mindset. They have a very bright future, and as an Education Partner, it was a pleasure to be a small part of their story!”

Education Partners is a collaboration between the district, community members, and businesses to enhance the educational experience of DVISD students.
