For over 31 years, For The Children, Inc. has provided school supplies for students across the Central Texas area. The organization has a long history of working with Del Valle ISD (DVISD) to provide school supplies for students, and this year was no different. For the Children provided over $19,600 of back-to-school supplies for over 4,918 students. To ensure students had supplies in time for the first day of school, the DVISD Operations and Curriculum and Instruction Departments unpacked the dozens of boxes, sorted and distributed supplies via curbside pick-up locations and bus delivery with meal services.
Additionally, For the Children partnered with H-E-B to provide Del Valle ISD with an additional in-kind donation of $7,315 in the form of 1,045 school supply kits to be distributed by the District on an as-needed basis throughout the year. From paper and glue to crayons and markers, For the Children provided enough school supplies to ensure DVISD students in need have the supplies and tools necessary to be academically successful at home and school.
“We understand that there is a need in the community, and we don’t want kids to start class without the supplies they need. We also don’t want teachers, who already dedicate so much time and money to their classrooms, going into their own pockets buying additional supplies for students if we can help,” said For the Children Board President David Sanchez. “The goal is for kids to go into school on day one and start learning. We don’t want them to focus on supplies; we want them to focus on being successful.”
