Del Valle Middle School (DVMS) held a campus-wide Black History Month assembly on Friday, February 21. The purpose was to provide students with the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the culture, traditions and contributions of African Americans as an entire student body.

The assembly included student performances, a professional step routine by Kappa Alpha Psi, a faculty lip sync battle and an inspirational speech from the president for Austin’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NCAAP), Nelson E. Linder.

In preparation for his visit, Linder stated, “History is more than remembering the past. History is connecting our past to our present and future, with the intent and purpose of creating a better world for humankind.”
