Smith Elementary School Pre-K students are learning about ways to be healthy, including eating fruits and vegetables. Part of the lesson introduces the life cycle of plants through hands-on gardening activities. The student planted carrots, radishes, and Romanesco broccoli in the school’s garden beds, taking turns watering as needed. In the classroom, students sort fruits and vegetables and have turned Dramatic Play Centers into farmer’s markets.
They will continue to observe and care for the plants in the garden throughout the year and will harvest in the spring.
“The students are enjoying gardening. It is so awesome watching them learn through gardening as they engage their natural curiosity and wonder,” said Cynthia Ramirez, the Parent Community Liaison at Smith Elementary.
