High School science teacher Inez Muniz Miret was recently recognized as a recipient of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

Established in 1983, PAEMST is the highest award given by the U.S. Government to kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers of mathematics and science, including computer science.

A panel of distinguished mathematicians, scientists, and educators at the state and national levels assess the applications before recommending nominees to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Teachers are selected based on their distinction in the classroom and dedication to improving science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education.

“Mrs. Ines Muniz Miret is a high energy, engaging teacher who added so much to the lives of our students at Del Valle High School as well as our community.” said principal Dr. Joseph Welch. “The daily lessons she provides empowers our students with the knowledge and skills relating to their daily lives. We are so grateful that she joined our team!”

Mrs. Miret was recognized for the work she accomplished at The Baldwin School of Puerto Rico where she taught for over twenty years. She joined DVISD this year.
