DVHS student Roxanne Flournoy won the first place prize of $500 for her creation of a mural representing Voter Registration in Travis County. Her design was printed on a portable canvas that serves as a moving mural that can go to any event in the community, including Travis County Voter Registration Drives. The contest’s goal is to make Travis County a more colorful and better place to live, with participation in the electoral process.
Along with the Austin area League of Women Voters, the Travis County Voter Registration Division sponsors the mural contest to increase awareness on voter registration and voting. They invited students at all Travis County high schools to participate in the 2019 Student Mural Contest. The contest accepted submissions in the spring. Judges including local painters, gallery owners, philanthropists, and art teachers selected the winners.
