JROTC studentGabino Bravo, a Del Valle High School 11th grade student, recently completed the U.S. Air Force JROTC Summer Flight Academy held at Delaware State University this summer.  The Summer Flight Academy is an eight-week program designed for students interested in aviation careers.

Gabino was one of only 150 students selected from more than 1,800 applications based on GPA, JROTC participation, and an aviation qualification test. Participation in the program is worth $20,000 including the cost of transportation, lodging, per diem, and tuition.

“For Gabino to be one of the 150 students selected out of 1800 who applied nationwide, is a true testament of his abilities and leadership,” said Col. (Ret.) Mike Kinslow, the DVHS Senior Aerospace Instructor, ”He is such a great student and will be successful in his future endeavors.”

The program provided 35 hours of classroom learning, and up to 49 hours of flight training. Upon completion of the program, the participants obtained their Civilian Private Pilot’s License.
