Del Valle ISD partnered up with The Junior League of Austin to participate in the Food in Tummies (FIT) Project, which is a program that delivers backpacks containing healthy, shelf-stable food.

FIT delivered 1,400 backpacks for Baty Elementary School and Hillcrest Elementary School on Friday, Sept. 8. FIT will be sending kids home with nutritious snacks each Friday throughout the 2017-2018 school year.

“The most beneficial thing for kids is having good, healthy food over the weekend because study show that kids tend to fall behind in school by not getting the proper nutrients,” said Katy Andre, FIT chair. “The food is easy to serve, easy to eat and it does not require a lot of preparation so kids of all ages can prepare the snacks.”
