Texas State Representative Eddie Rodriguez visited Del Valle High School World Affairs Council student interns to speak with them as part of a recurring engagement opportunity with Austin-area leaders. The World Affairs Council of Austin is an organization that aims to provide top-quality programming and events, as well as create conduits for interaction with international experts and decision-makers, like state representatives.
Representative Rodriguez shared his vision for focusing on challenging local topics like affordable housing, grocery and food access, gun violence, and school safety. In addition to focusing on legislative goals, he made recommendations to the students to pursue their passion or invest in education after high school to guide their interests.
Superintendent Dr. Annette Tielle Villerot also attended the session and briefly met with the Representative and students following the presentation.
“His recommendation to diversify knowledge in all subject areas during college made me realize that I’m making the right decision in furthering my education after high school,” said 12th-grade student Eleyah Trevino.
All of the student interns in the World Affairs Council will earn the Global Scholars Diploma upon their graduation from DVHS.
