The LEAD program at Baty Elementary School hosted a Winter Showcase Event on December 12 for parents and families to celebrate student achievement and creative work during the fall semester of the LEAD afterschool program.
Over 130 students in kindergarten through fifth grade participated in performances on stage and displayed projects they worked on throughout the semester. The showcase started with the Pledge of Allegiance and a patriotic song led by the LEAD choir. Ballet Folklórico performed “Los Machetes,” which they also performed at the Mexican American Cultural Center in October. The group also debuted a dance they are working on for the Bailes de Mi Tierra competition in the Spring. The second-grade pep squad also showed off their school spirit and some of the cheers they have learned.
Creative Action students displayed their screen-printing t-shirt designs. Each student in the group created their own, unique design based on their individual interests and explained to the audience how the design was created and something they learned in the class. The Beyond the Grade Guitar Club performed a few holiday favorites on stage and the event was capped off with a holiday-themed routine from the Cheer group.
Students came away from the semester of work with a sense of accomplishment, as described by one Creative Action Student, “I learned to always feel motivated and it doesn’t matter how it turns out, it’s about the hard work and effort I put in.”
