Firefighters from Austin Fire Department Station 48 provided Hornsby-Dunlap students lessons in fire safety. Students were taught how to Stop, Drop, and Roll and learned about the importance of a smoke detector and how to check to see if it works. Firefighters demonstrated the use of fire hoses while students were permitted onto the fire truck to see equipment that Austin firefighters use to keep us safe every day.
“Even at a young age like kindergarten, it is important for our students to learn about fire safety,” said Laura Lopez, Hornsby-Dunlap’s Parent-Community Liaison. “We hope that they take this information and apply it in the event of a fire.”
