The Ojeda Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Cross Country teams traveled to Bastrop for their District Meet on October 23. Both the 7th-grade girls and boys teams returned with the District Title.
The 7th team earned the 1st place team trophy and placed three runners in the top 10. The girls team finished the season winning 1st place in 4 of their 5 meets. The 7th Grade Boys Cross Country team also earned 1st place with three top 10 finishers.
For most of the athletes, the fall season was the first experience in Cross Country. Boys Coach Edgar Martinez noted that the team persevered and quickly realized the positive physical and mental health benefits of running. “I am personally, very proud to see how these guys came together as a team and pulled off the win at District,” Coach Martinez said.
The 8th-grade girls team took home 4th place, with two individuals earning Top 10 medals. The 8th-grade boys team is was also competitive, made up of mostly soccer players conditioning for their upcoming soccer season.
“Congratulations on a job well-done Coach Powers,” said Jane Martin, the district’s Girls Athletic Coordinator, “This is so exciting that Ojeda is creating a cross country powerhouse.”
