Del Valle Middle School physical education teacher Pia Bellocchio was named a Texas CATCH Champion of 2019 by the Texas Association of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance. She is a 12-year veteran teacher at DVMS. The recognition notes her continued dedication to creating a healthy environment for her students and the teachers at DVMS.
Ms. Belocchio coordinates CATCH nights, family fitness events, a healthy snack café, walk-a-thons, and athletic events at the middle school. She also promotes healthy eating and living through announcements and daily interactions with students and families.
CATCH is the Coordinated Approach to Child Health program. The primary goal of CATCH’s Physical Education component is to increase activity children engage in during their PE time. They also encourage students to receive 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
“CATCH offers a model and example on how to implement a comprehensive vision of school-wide health at our campus,” Ms. Belocchio explained.
The official honor will take place at the 11th Annual Texas CATCH Champion Award ceremony held at the Texas Association of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance Annual Convention on December 5th.
“Pia Bellocchio is being recognized for her untiring dedication to create a healthy environment for her students and the teachers at DVMS,” said Shana Green, a CATCH Curriculum Implementation Manager.
