Natasha Staten, Principal at Del Valle Middle School, will be honored for her outstanding leadership in education by the Austin NAACP at a ceremony in December. Staten, who is starting her third year as principal, was previously a middle school social studies teacher, department chair and track coach in the district. She returned to DVISD after serving as an associate principal at Manor ISD.

“This leadership award is representative of who Ms.Staten exhibits on a daily basis,” said Ray Prentice, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, “Her commitment to excellence for students, staff and community epitomizes Del Valle ISD’s mission.”

The Austin NAACP Annual Dewitty/Overton Freedom Fund Banquet honors individuals for improving the quality of life for African Americans in Austin, as well as their work and leadership in the entire community. For Staten, the NAACP cited her purpose-driven leadership in assisting students reach educational excellence at DVMS.
