Del Valle ISD Board of Trustees were named the Best Overall School Board in the State of Texas by H-E-B Excellence in Education. The DVISD Board was announced as the School Board of the Year on Sunday, May 5, at the Fairmount Hotel in downtown Austin, Texas in an awards ceremony which they competed with other school boards across the state.
“It was such a pleasure to work with such a committed team through the entire application process to allow representatives from the H-E-B Foundation to come to Del Valle to hear our story, to hear the Board’s story and the community’s story,” said Chief Communications Officer Jonathan Harris. “In doing so, it resulted in such a prestigious state honor that reflects the day-to-day actions and behind the scenes commitment that the board strives to fulfill.”
The H-E-B Excellence in Education School Board Award is designed to recognize school boards that have demonstrated real leadership in the community it serves based on three criteria:
- Academic/student progress within the district
- Identification of community needs and specific actions taken based on those needs
- New and creative methods for community engagement
