Del Valle ISD secondary students from Del Valle High School and Del Valle Middle School were awarded Secondary Special Awards on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Palmer Event Center during the annual Austin Energy Regional Science Festival.
Angel Saenz, senior at Del Valle High School, won the Superintendent Award for Del Valle ISD for his Calming Oils and their Effects on Planaria’s Reaction to Light project.
Grace Brooks & Samantha Osorio Urquiza, juniors at Del Valle High School, won the Austin Geological Society Sr. Award for the Effect of Industrial Activity on Bodies of Water project and the Effects of the Levels of Starch on the Rate of Decomposition of Biodegradable Plastics and the Resistance to Water project.
Lucia Hernandez, senior at Del Valle High School, won the Passion for Science Award Sr. for Twin Sense: Do Twins Have Similar Thoughts? project. Hernandez is eligible to attend the statewide competition in March at Texas A&M University.
Joselyne Jaramillo & Liliana Ramos, Del Valle Middle School students, won the Passion for Science Award Jr. for the Affects of Caffeine on a Mung Bean project. Both Jaramillo and Ramos are eligible to attend the statewide competition in March at Texas A&M University.
The Austin Energy Regional Science Festival is one of Texas’ largest regional science fairs with almost 3,000 students from 3rd through 12th grade. It encourages and rewards innovative student research and provides scientists, engineers and other professionals a chance to volunteer in the community.
