Carrie Abrams – Popham Elementary (Principal)
Carrie Abrams is the new principal at Popham Elementary, and she has served there as the assistant principal for the past 11 years. Prior to that, she spent six years at Hornsby Elementary where she began her teaching career. During the past 16 years, Mrs. Abrams has enjoyed getting to know the families in the community and working together to learn about the unique characteristics that each child brings to Popham Elementary. Mrs. Abrams works daily to instill a love of learning with her staff and students, and she recognizes that when everyone is working together towards a common goal, great things will happen.
Jennifer Eberly – Hillcrest Elementary (Principal)
Mrs. Eberly has been in education for 16 years, and she has spent 13 of those years serving the families of Del Valle. She joined the team at Del Valle Elementary in the fall of 2005 as a 4th-grade teacher. During her time at DVE, she taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade prior to taking on the position of assistant principal. She has spent the last six years in that role working with different campus initiatives including Building a Community of Readers. Mrs. Eberly is excited and proud to be leading the Hillcrest Hawks into the 2018-2019 school year.
Helen Garcia – Hornsby Dunlap Elementary (Principal)
Helen Garcia has been a proud and hard-working educator for 15 years. Her career began in 2003 as a 3rd grade ESL teacher in Austin ISD. She has worked in several capacities and grade levels; including serving as an instructional coach and 5th-grade bilingual math teacher. For the last four years, Ms. Garcia worked as an assistant principal in Pflugerville ISD at a dual-language campus where she helped to raise parent involvement, increased campus test scores and created a culture that focused on the student first. Ms. Garcia’s educational credentials include her bachelor’s degree in Applied Learning Development, a master’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and Educational Leadership from Texas State University, and she is honored to have the opportunity to continue her career in Del Valle ISD.
Laura Carlin-Gonzalez – Baty Elementary (Principal)
Laura Carlin-Gonzalez is the new proud principal of Baty Elementary. She joins the district from Pflugerville ISD where she served as the Director of College and Career Readiness and acting Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She began her career as a high school mathematics teacher in Round Rock ISD. In 2011, she became an assistant principal at Manor High School where she implemented a comprehensive plan to increase attendance and implemented a trimester master scheduling system to create more opportunities for students to gain credit. In 2013, she was named Manor ISD Professional Employee of the Year. Mrs. Carlin-Gonzalez received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas State University-San Marcos. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy through The University of Texas at Austin’s Cooperative Superintendency Program.
Lindsey Gonzalez has 10 years of dedicated experience in Del Valle ISD. She pursued her love of teaching in 3rd and 5th-grade classrooms at Smith Elementary and Creedmoor Elementary, where she was chosen as the Teacher of the Year in 2014. She joined Gilbert Elementary in 2015 and served as the campus instructional coach and assistant principal before becoming the interim principal in March of 2018. Mrs. Gonzalez received her undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University and her master’s degree from Texas State University in Educational Leadership. Mrs. Gonzalez believes in creating a positive, learning-centered school culture to support student and staff development. She strongly believes that all children can learn and succeed when given the opportunity to develop their strengths and pursue their passions.
Dr. Joseph Welch – Del Valle High School (Principal)
Dr. Welch has over 20 years of experience in the education field. Prior to accepting the Del Valle High School principal position, Dr. Welch served in various leadership roles at the collegiate level and secondary education as well. His most recent position was at Killeen ISD; where he served as the Executive Director of Student Services for five years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah, master’s degree in Education from National University and a doctorate from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
