In a monumental moment for Del Valle ISD, the first Early College High School (ECHS) student walked the stage for the commencement exercises at Austin Community College on Thursday, May 10, at the Frank Erwin Center.

Del Valle Early College High School (ECHS) senior Tre’Neal Williams has officially earned his associates degree before graduating high school. Williams along with 162 other high school students from the Austin-area earned a college degree at no cost through the dual credit program.

Williams started the Early College High School program at ACC in his sophomore year of high school. Williams transferred to Del Valle High School in his junior year, fall 2017.

“Almost 80 percent of students at Del Valle High School are economically disadvantaged, which means 80 percent of students at Del Valle should be a part of the ECHS program,” Williams said.

Del Valle began its partnership with ACC in 2015. Del Valle ISD covers tuition, fees and textbooks in the dual credit program.
