Read Across America

On Friday, March 2, in conjunction with the birthday of author Dr. Seuss, Del Valle ISD campuses celebrated and took part in Read Across America Day.

The district’s elementary school campuses invited community members, Austin-area heroes and District employees to read books from Dr. Seuss and other well-known authors.

Participants included House of Representative Eddie Rodriguez, KXAN News Anchor Sally Hernandez, DVISD Superintendent Dr. Kelly Crook, Austin Community College Police Officer Kenneth Cox and more.

“We do this for our students to get the love of reading going,” Hillcrest teacher Michelle Cardenas.

The National Education Association donated bookmarks, pencils, stickers and the Three Little Pigs bilingual book to every student that participated in the Read Across America event.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go,” Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut.Read Across America
