Del Valle High School teacher Victoria Longoria received The Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award by Humanities Texas on Monday, Nov. 27, at the Del Valle High School auditorium in front of students, staff, DVISD Board Members and Texas Rep. Lloyd Doggett.
Each year, Humanities Texas selected 12 teachers to receive a $5,000 cash award and an additional $500 for their respective schools to purchase humanities-based instructional materials.
“It’s inspiring to see Longoria so committed to her students and her work in humanitarian studies,” said Rep. Doggett. “Longoria is the perfect example of what we want every teacher to be.”
During the ceremony, Rep. Doggett held a Q&A session with Del Valle High School students to discuss political topics such as healthcare, Constitutional rights and tax reform.
